• Acupuncture
Is a healing modality used for thousands of years to treat injury and illness and also to prevent disease. Acupuncture involves placing very thin needles at precise points on the body along energy pathways known in Chinese medicine as meridians or channels. The World Health Organization and National Institutes of Health recognize that acupuncture and oriental medicine can treat many ailments including insomnia, PMS, menopause, depression, pain, digestive disorders, infertility, acute illness such as colds and flu and neurological problems.  Visit the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to read more.
  • Cupping
This is a technique where heat is used to create a vacuum inside a glass cup and placed over certain points to draw blood and toxins up to the surface. Cupping is very good to invigorate circulation, relieve certain types of pain and alleviate muscle aches and tension.
  • Gua Sha
This is a technique that involves creating friction on the skin surface by rubbing or scraping over certain points or area of the body (often the upper back and neck). Traditionally a glass soup spoon or gua sha tool  is used; it is especially good for breaking up muscle congestion and treating stiff and sore muscles.
  • Moxibustion
This is a very common modality in which the moxa herb (primarily mugwart) is burned over certain acupuncture points. Traditionally this was used more often than needles to stimulate and activate certain points of the body. The herb never gets too close to the skin to burn, it just feels comfortably warm to the patient. Moxa is often used in conjunction with acupuncture and is an easy therapy to teach patients to do on themselves at home if needed.
  • Herbal Medicine
Herbs may be used alone or augment acupuncture treatments. They may be taken orally or topically. Traditionally they are prescribed in combinations of two or more herbs. Herbs are used in conjunction to have a synergistic effect, to help moderate any possible side effects (such as digestive upset) or to guide the healing properties to certain parts of the body. Herbs are carefully combined in formulas according to their energetic characteristics.
  • External Qi Healing(EQH)
EQH is a non contact healing touch, and is based in the traditional Chinese medicine model of the three dan tians and twelve meridian framework. EQH is very gentle, and is an excellent therapy for the same range of problems treated by acupuncture. The concept and framework of EQH is very similar to acupuncture, except that it manipulates and moves energy without the use of needles. EQH is a common healing modality used in China. You can read some more about qigong and external qi healing at Acupuncture Today.

  • Qigong
The ancient practice of qigong is a treasure of the Chinese culture focused on cultivating health and longevity. There are many different forms and styles of qigong, the movements are very easy to learn and require no special equipment. Movement is coordinated with breath to help build up the energy stores and keep them free flowing in order to maintain wellness or treat disharmony in the body.  In ancient China, qigong was a treatment of choice. If prevention or early treatment failed, the physician prescribed an herbal formula/ and or acupuncture treatment. Group classes are held weekly, you may go to Fort Collins Taoist Qi Gong Meetup Group to check out the schedule.
